Health benefits of using a Rowing Machine.
A rowing machine will improve your health because it: - increases your strength and endurance
- causes your body to burn more calories
- works all the major muscle groups
- gives you a great cardio workout
- assists in rehabbing your muscles and joints
- allows you to leap tall buildings in one jump (tho not guaranteed :)
The unique range of motion used on this particular home exercise equipment, can help improve the flexibility in your joints. This is often difficult to get back after an injury or surgery.
Aerobic - Anaerobic Workout
This machine gives you both an aerobic and an anaerobic workout at the same time (basically you get a 2fer for free). You can easily choose which system to target by increasing/decreasing the tension on the machine. To make it more of an aerobic workout, set the tension on the machine to a lighter level and do many repetitions quickly. This is the way to use the machine when starting out and until you’re used to doing the exercise. To transition to a more anaerobic exercise and build strength, simply increase the tension, which will cause you to strain much harder and do the repetitions much more slowly. No matter which way you do the exercise, both systems will receive some benefit.
Different types of Rowers
There are 5 different types of resistance used in on rowing machines. They are:- air
- air/magnetic
- magnetic
- piston
- and water.
Deciding which style to use is pretty easy if you belong to a gym. All you have to do is try them out and see which one feels good and has the features you’re looking for. If you don’t belong to a gym and are thinking about buying one for your home, I’d still do the same thing. Most gyms will give you a tour of their facility or a free pass for the day.
What to look for.
Two things my
coaching clients
don’t seem to care for in any piece of exercise equipment are:- rough spots or catches in the machine when it’s being going through its range of motion and
- irritating noises (loose chains, sloppy hinge points, etc…)
Other things you may want to consider are:- How much room do you have at home?– rowers are 4 to 8 feet in length and can be fairly light or go up to hundreds of pounds
- Cost
- Does it adjust easily? – especially if more than one person will use it
If space and cost are important to you, a rowing machine may be the ticket. This one machine is versatile, giving you a whole body workout.Since it takes care of strength training and cardio conditioning you may be able to eliminate a second piece of home fitness equipment by owning this one. If you would like to browse or buy a machine online you can do so here at
