Healthy Protein

How do you get your protein? From red meat? Chicken? Fish? Should you be one of the categories of vegetarians? Well, that's for you to decide. Personally I eat a healthy protein diet and feel great doing so.

You should absolutely avoid all processed meats. If you are going to eat meat and are concerned with your health, I would like to point out the following.

Salmon

Salmon is generally regarded as a very healthy meat source, but not if it is full of mercury. Salmon from Alaskan waters is much healthier than that from other sources.

If you eat farmed salmon please look at the following.

The problems with farmed salmon are:

  • too many fish in a confined space

  • this requires medicines to keep them "healthy"

  • they're fed a cheap diet

I have a friend that's a CEO in the fish industry. He set up a banquet at a hotel and put salmon on the menu. He told the hotel that it had to be real salmon, not farmed. His group walked into the banquet, saw the farmed salmon on the table and pitched a fit.

The hotel assumed they could put the cheaper farmed stuff out and no one would realize it. The difference is easy to spot and these guys were experts.

If you ever get the opportunity to compare farmed salmon with wild, you will see the difference immediately. The amount of fat in farmed salmon and the orange color give it away.

Here is a source for healthy Salmon.

Chicken

The chicken that comes through the corporate farming system is often raised in “Chicken Condos.” These are cubicles that have the birds stacked one on top of another so that the waste of those on the top layer fall on those below.

Yeah, make mine extra crispy and super size it!

Obviously the birds don't get any exercise (which all creatures need to be healthy). In order to keep birds from dying in these conditions they have to be pumped full of antibiotics. The FDA has authorized 2,000 chemicals plus drugs to be added to chicken feed.

Beef and Pork

I tell my coaching clients that beef and pork sitting in the grocer’s display case that has come through the same corporate system is not healthy for the same reasons stated above.

Animals are raised in a confined space and are fed an unhealthy diet. This diet is chosen because it's cheap and it creates rapid weight gain. Animals are also given hormones to make them grow even larger and faster.

The additives in their feed keep the animal from appearing sick, but their toxins are passed on to the end user (you).

Eat Healthy Protein

My Recommendation

You will be much healthier if you make an effort to know the what, where, who and how behind your protein choices.

Consuming

  • free range beef and chicken

  • wild game

  • meat from a local farmer that raises healthy animals in a healthy manner
will serve your health, rather than steal it. Enjoy your protein diet.

Be aware, think for yourself, and take control of your own health.
