You on a Healthy Diet? Yes!

I’d like you to consider this – a healthy diet isn’t something you "go on" to lose weight. It is what you eat today, tomorrow and the rest of your life. If you want to make a change in your health and wellness, eat healthy food.

Watching TV and ordering the latest and greatest pill, proven to lose the most weight, from just the right spot, without any change in your diet or exercise habits - isn’t going to work. It seems like we would have that figured by now.

To make a sustainable change in your eating habits you will have to choose a way of eating that you enjoy. I eat 5 to 6 times per day and I look forward to each meal or snack.

Make it Tasty and Healthy

I know from personal experience and coaching other people that it's easy to do what you like. No amount of willpower will make you do something you dislike over a long period of time.

For example, for breakfast you can make a Healthy Smoothie that tastes great, is easy to make and fits into any schedule. You are able to have something that:

  • supports your health

  • leaves you feeling good afterwards

  • you can look forward to again
Whether running off to an appointment or leisurely reading the morning paper, this will fit in perfectly. You will be able to incorporate this into your lifestyle and stick with it because it's easy and enjoyable.

Healthy Snacks

Part of your healthy eating plan should include healthy snacks between meals. Many people eat 3 large meals per day and if that works for you that's good.

However, people often eat more this way as they are starving when they finally get to the dining room table.

When eating 5-6 smaller servings throughout the day you will find that you don't over do it as much. You aren't starving when you eat and you also know that you'll be eating again shortly. So the tendency to over eat is lessened.

A body that is starved will store fat. When it believes that times are good (when it's being feed good nutrition often) it will release fat.

Eating meat

Should meat be a part of a healthy diet? There are differing opinions on the subject. I would like to point out that if you are going to eat meat (I certainly do), make sure that you are getting meat that is healthy.

The "Which is better - chicken, fish, pork, or beef" argument means nothing if they haven't been raised in a healthy environment, on quality feed.

Generally, anytime something is "farmed" (raised in close quarters) the quality of the meat you get is less than healthy. A more natural or "free range" way of maturing is what produces a healthy animal and quality protein.

Processed meats.

One category of food that does not fit into a healthy eating plan is processed meat. Almost all processed meat has the preservative sodium nitrate or BHA in it.

These are chemicals that can wreck your health and are put in the meat for the benefit of those selling it.

If you want more information on the dangers you face from this type food, check out processed meat.

My recommendation.

In finding an enjoyable and sustainable way of eating a healthy diet, remember to make sure that the source of your food is also healthy.
