Good Food Preparation Creates Your Maximum Health Benefit!
Why is your food preparation important? After making the effort to: - educate yourself on nutrition
- find places to buy the healthiest food and
- pay a little more for your nutrition
you shouldn't prepare your food in a manner that removes all it's benefits.Worse yet, you don't want to harm yourself in the process. So I believe it's important to keep your eye on the ball when it comes to how you prepare your food.
Juicing
By now you know (or should) that eating
raw food
is one of the best ways to take in nutrition. You almost always get the most benefit from a food when it is raw. Many advocate that you eat 4-6 servings of veggi's and multiple servings of fruit daily. I believe that is a healthy plan. It is also quite a bunch and can be hard to work into your busy schedule. So I take the easy way out. I have an Omega 1000 Fruit and Vegetable
juicer
and can vouch for the fact that it will make it easy for you to get all the above done daily. Throw in half a dozen veggi's at lunch and drink it with your meal. At breakfast you can do the same with fruit. You also get get an added bonus. Older or more ripened fruit can be utilized instead of being thrown out.
Vitamix
How about one machine that:- you can throw whole foods in
- makes hot soup
- makes frozen drinks and
- can grind grain into flour and knead dough for home made bread
I have a
Vitamix
5000 and it will do all the above. How does a machine do all those things? Beats me (I go with what works and leave science and mechanics to others). I have a Juicer and a Vitamix and both are used daily. Forced to choose between one or the other, I'd guess the Vitamix might be healthier because you also get the nutritious fiber of the food. My kids like clear juice, so I'm glad I don't have to choose.
Vegetable Steamer
When you cook your food, do it in a healthy manner. Overcooking vegetables destroys the nutrition in them. When you cook a vegetable to the point it becomes mush, it also is unappealing. I try to get my
coaching clients
to use a vegetable steamer everyday! You can lightly cook your veggies so that they are still firm, hot, and tasty. You get pretty much all the nutrition available from them with this method of food preparation. My steamer is a Black & Decker, costs less than $30.00 and my last one worked for 10 years before it wore out. You can check it out at the following link. You may be able to beat the price by shopping around, something I don't have the patience for.
Food Preparation
Microwave Ovens
Do you have a microwave in your kitchen? With this style of food preparation you get things heated quickly, they are fairly inexpensive, and easy to clean. So what's my point? Are they something that adds to, or at least doesn't detract from, your health? Conventional cooking processes work through the transfer of heat from the source (burner, oven, flame) to the food. Microwaves heat food by causing the molecules in the food to rub against one another causing friction. So some questions come to mind. - Is this food preparation method destabilizing to whatever you are heating up?
- Have you ever read a study on whether or not microwave cooking is safe?
- If no? Have you ever wondered why?
after some research this is what I found ....
Microwaves.
Teflon Cookware
Hopefully you aren't using these products. They were never made to cook food at high temperatures and the labels on them say so. How many of us never put a burner on high?Does it really make sense that it's all that safe to use them at a lower heat? What about when they are older and the teflon has deteriorated? There were too many questions so I looked into
Teflon.
