Is It Safe?
When using fluoride toothpaste, is the benefit to your teeth (if there is any) worth the detriment you suffer from a health standpoint? What? You say that I must be crazy, everyone knows that you need fluoride in your toothpaste. I don’t believe it! I picked up a tube of toothpaste with the Nickelodeon (of TV Fame) symbol on the front. This is obviously a product aimed at youngsters and indeed the marketing on the back noted that this was a mild formula with no
sugar
or saccharin. As I read further, the instructions said that for kids under 6, use a pea size amount of paste and instruct in good brushing and rinsing habits (to minimize swallowing). Then came - WARNING: Keep out of the reach of children under 6 years of age. If they accidentally swallow more than used for brushing (remember, the amount equal to a pea) seek professional assistance or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. That’s a toothpaste that is marketed to our kids. What does yours say? You might want to check.

Dr. Douglas, voted "Doctor of the Year" by the National Health Federation, has plenty to say about fluoride:- it used to be the only approved uses were as an insecticide and rat poison
- ingesting fluoride has absolutely no bearing on preventing tooth decay
- the ADA is advising that parents not give fluoridated water to babies - because it can cause brain damage!

Common Sense
Now Lucy, splain a me this. If ingesting more than the amount needed for brushing causes you to be poisoned, what is the toxic effect of a little bit 1 to 2 times a day for 60-90 years?Talk about a great way to create a toxic buildup in your system. If fluoride toothpaste will kill you in larger doses, how can it possibly be healthy in small daily doses?
My Recommendation
As always, do your own research and take the action you believe best. This is an important factor in your health.If you want to use toothpaste that has no poison in it you can buy it at most health stores. The brands that I use and like are Thoms of Maine and Jason. Be aware, think for yourself, and take control of your own health! PS... You might want to remember this information if/when there is a push in your area to dump fluoride in your water supply.
