Eating Healthy

Are you eating healthy? Have you been searching for a diet that works?
With so many different theories, diet books and contradictory information being passed around today, how do you know what is true?

You can use the following as a basis to work from to construct a diet program that will benefit you.

Real (Nature's) Foods are Best

All real foods are better for you than those that have been processed. If it comes from nature it will have the nutrition and health benefits your body needs and help you to eat smart. You'll eat less with these foods on the menu. Just try and over eat on raw veggies or on raisins!

If you are eating most of your foods from a:

  • can

  • box

  • or package

you will most likely be consuming empty calories. They do not provide your body with what it needs. After eating like this and haven taken in too many calories already, you're still hungry.

That hunger is a signal from the body saying "Hey dummy, I need some quality nutrition. The junk you're sending down isn't eating healthy."

How do You Feel after Eating?

Monitor how you feel after eating a meal. Take note of the foods you ate. If you feel bloated or have low energy, then you made food choices incompatible with your body.

If you feel bloated and can't digest your meals quite often, you might want to try not combining protein and carbs (potatoes, pasta and breads - veggies are ok) in a meal. When preparing a meal stick with just one and see if you don't feel better.

Holiday meals are a good example of how this can affect you. You combine:

  • carbs

  • proteins

  • fruits

  • desserts

  • drinks

  • with the fact that you eat too much

and you end up miserable (or asleep) for the next few hours. I've read many times how the tryptophan in turkey causes you to fall asleep after your holiday meal. Baloney, you can eat handfuls of turkey by itself and it won't cause you to be sleepy.

One thing you can do to help yourself feel better after eating is to figure out your metabolic type. Eating healthy foods that are right for your type will:

  • make it easier on your digestive tract in processing your meal

  • not leave you with a bloated feeling

  • leave you with more energy

How is Your Energy Level

If you have a consistent level of energy that suits you - great! However, if you have big energy swings from high to low then you should pay more attention to what you are putting in your mouth.

When I was younger I used to have huge "crashes", especially in the mid mornings. The Dr. told me I had Hyperglycemia. So for years I thought I was Hypoglycemic and that was causing the crashes.

To make a long story short, I finally learned that if I didn't eat:

  • cereal

  • pancakes

  • waffles

  • syrup

  • and basically anything that rates high on the glycemic index
then it wouldn't happen.

What I really had was too much sugar in my system. It would spike my blood sugar to an unhealthy level and once it left my system I would crash and be left feeling horrible.

A healthy diet plan will include making food choices that support your body in every way. So be more purposeful and deliberate when you put something in your mouth.

Don't let your taste buds have all the say so!
