Diet Plan

A diet plan is important if you are going to eat a healthy diet. Eating healthy takes more work and preparation than just shoveling in whatever food happens to show up during your day.

Developing a systematic diet program to determine what you will and won't eat takes some work. However, the benefit to your body and health will be more than worth it.

Educate Yourself

One of the first steps to eating healthy is to educate yourself on the good and the bad when it comes to nutrition. Most people already know to eat some of the good (whether or not they actually do it).

What many fail to do is to make a plan as to how they're going to cut out the "bad stuff".

You can't do it all at once. You need to implement pieces in over time. Eg, too much sugar and high fructose corn syrup is often a problem for some of my coaching clients and a very good place to start.

You can start bringing in more of the good to replace the bad. Increasing your consumption of fresh fruits and veggies is always a good step toward eating healthy. For an easy way to increase your vegetable intake look at the vitamix.

Away from Home

While it takes more work and preparation to stick to a healthy diet plan at home, it is much harder away from home.

Pretty much the only way to ensure that you stay on track is to plan ahead.

Having healthy snacks with you when while traveling will give you a real leg up on eating healthy and sticking with your diet plan.

Spontaneous Eating

You show up at an appointment or a friends and they offer you some sugar loaded goody. You eat because:
  • it looks good

  • it's a habit to be polite when people offer you something to eat

  • you unthinkingly go "Oh Boy" anytime you see free sugared food

  • or whatever.

Afterward you:

  • have a big glob in your gut,

  • are not happy because you've unintentionally screwed up

  • are wondering what happened.

Don't beat yourself up. It's a habit may of us have to break. Decide that the next time you are offered something you hadn't planned to eat, you'll say no thank you.

I do it all the time and people don't take offense. If you feel awkward in turning down the food, you can always explain that you've just eaten.

The old saying "Failing to plan, is planning to fail" is really true when trying to avoid spontaneous eating.
