The importance to your health
of low blood sugar levels.

You will be healthier if you will keep your blood sugar levels low. People that let their levels rise and stay there are at risk of:

  • type II diabetes

  • obesity and

  • heart disease.
These are a few of the problems you can encounter when you don't control your blood sugar levels.

Our modern day eating practices and a sedentary lifestyle are the biggest culprits in creating these problems.

Poor Eating Habits

Generally we seem to eat to please our taste buds instead of eating to be healthy. If you follow this practice you may find yourself in the obese category (there are estimates that 67% of the US population is obese).

The taste of sugar and sugary foods can become addicting over time. Many of my coaching clients don't believe that they eat much sugar because they don't spoon it on to what they're eating.

Once we go over their diet together, it is obvious that they are getting much more sugar than they realize because of the processed foods they consume. That is without considering soda or pop.

Soda

One soda won't hurt anything, will it? Sorry, but yes it will as far as it's impact on your blood. This was posted at Dr. Mercola's website in regards to drinking a soda.
  • Within the first 10 minutes, 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. This is 100 percent of your recommended daily intake, and the only reason you don’t vomit as a result of the overwhelming sweetness is because phosphoric acid cuts the flavor.

  • Within 20 minutes, your blood sugar spikes, and your liver responds to the resulting insulin burst by turning massive amounts of sugar into fat.

  • Within 40 minutes, caffeine absorption is complete; your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your livers dumps more sugar into your bloodstream.

  • Around 45 minutes, your body increases dopamine production, which stimulates the pleasure centers of your brain – a physically identical response to that of heroin, by the way.

  • After 60 minutes, you’ll start to have a sugar crash.
You can go to his site and look further into the evils of soda. If you think you can switch to drinking diet soda and be healthier you should think again. You can see why it's even worse for your health at aspartame.

Taking Control!

There are a number of simple (not necessarily easy, but easily understood)ways to take control of your levels and help ensure your good health.
  • Understand and use the glycemic index so you aren't guessing as to how much a food raises your blood sugar or for how long.

  • Get some form of exercise daily. You don't have to workout like an athlete or join a gym, but you do need to move your body. Try:

These will suffice and can be done in the privacy of your own home (which is probably where you'd better be if your doing the tango with a broom).

  • One half teaspoon of cinnamon a day has been proven to reduce blood sugar levels in type II diabetics and it also reduced triglycerides, LDL's and total cholesterol.

  • If you have a sweet tooth and must have something sweet, you may want to consider Zsweet or Stevia as these are natural products that aren't supposed to raise your levels.

I have not tested these products myself as I have pretty much weaned myself away from sweets. They appear to be safe, but you should do your own research.

My Recommendation

Be aware, think for yourself, and take control of your own health!
